Department of Empowerment of Person with Disabilities: Same as Ministry of Minority Affairs the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities provides scholarship in the Central Schemes.
In this department, the scholarship is provided such as Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, Post-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities and Scholarship for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities.
We are providing here details of each and every scholarship provided in the central scheme for Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
There are 6 component of the umbrella scheme of “Scholarship for Students with Disabilities which are as follows.
- Pre-Matric scholarship for SwDs (for class IX & X).
- Post-Matric Scholarship for SwDs (for class XI to Post-Graduate Degree/ Diploma).
- Top class education for SwDs (For graduate and Post-graduate Degree/ Diploma in notified institutes of excellence in education).
- National Overseas Scholarship (For Masters Degree/ Ph.D. in universities abroad).
- National fellowship for PwDs (For M.Phil and Ph.D. in Indian Universities)
Free coaching for SwDs (for recruitment examination for group A & B and entrance examination for admission in technical and Professional courses)
- Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students With Disabilities (For Class IX & X)
For this scholarship exam only Indian candidate are allowed. All the six scholarship (mentioned below) are applicable to students with disabilities with more than 40% disability and having a valid certificate of disability as prescribed under rules issued by the competent authority.
Not more than 2 children with disabilities of the same parent will be able to receive benefits of the scheme. But for the case of twin the second child is also applicable for this scholarship.
The scholarship holder under this scheme will not hold any other scholarship/ stipend.
Scholarship holders who are receiving coaching in any of the pre examination training centers with financial assistance from the central/ state government will not be eligible for stipend under the coaching schemes for the duration of the coaching programme.
For this scholarship only regular, full time student of class 9th or 10th in a government school or in a govt. recognized school or by a Central/ state board of secondary education are eligible to apply.
Selection Process
The final selection will be done by the department of empowerment of Persons with disabilities based on the recommendations of the concerned Department of the state government considering, inter alia, no. of slots available in the particular state.
On the basis of percentage of population of PWDs of that state comprising to the total PWD population of India the no. of slots available to that particular state.
Merit Criteria for Selection
The following factors will be taken into consideration
- Eligibility condition must be full-filled as per the scheme.
- Recommendation of the state education department.
- of slots available to the state.
- Merit of the candidate in terms of percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
- In case of tie in percentage of marks, the percentage of disability will be considered i.e. the candidate with higher percentage of disability will get preference. In case is there is a still tie then age will be considered i.e. the older candidate will get the preference.
Post-Matric Scholarship for Students With Disabilities (For Class XI to Post-graduate Degree/ Diploma)
For the study purpose these scholarship will be given to all recognized post matriculation or post-secondary courses pursued in recognized institution.
Scholarship under this scheme shall be available for studying in classes XI, XII, Post-matriculation diploma/ certificates and bachelors degree or Diploma in India and Masters Degree/ Diploma from any university recognized by UGC/ AICTE.
Only those candidates are eligible who have passed the matriculation or higher secondary or any higher examination of a recognized university or Board of Secondary education.
Courses of PG degree/ diploma/ certificate level are also covered under this scheme.
Candidate after passing one stage of education are studying in the same stage of education in different subject.
Students who are pursuing two different courses of study simultaneously can avail the scholarship.
Students studying in class XI of the higher secondary school courses of the class XII of the multipurpose high school will not be eligible for it being a continuous school course. But where class X examination of such courses is treated as equivalent to matriculation and students who after passing class Xth join other courses will be treated as post-matric students and will be eligible for the award of scholarships.
Students who after failing or passing the UG examination in Science/ Arts/ Commerce join any recognized professional or technical certificate/ diploma/ degree courses will be awarded scholarship if otherwise eligible.
Students who pursue their studies through correspondence courses are also eligible. The term correspondence includes distant and continuing education.
Employed students whose income combined with the income of their parents does not exceed the maximum prescribed income ceiling are made eligible to post-matric scholarships to the extent of payment of all compulsory payable non-refundable fees.
Scholarship for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities
This scholarship was started from 2015-16 on the recommendation of the XIIth Plan Working Group for Empowerment of Persons with disabilities.
The objective of this scholarship is: Aims at recognizing and promoting quality education among the students with disabilities by providing full financial support.
It covers students with disabilities (SwDs) for pursuing studies at the level of graduate and post graduate degree or diploma in notified institutes of excellence in education identified by DEPwD.
How To Apply
- The department of empowerment of persons with disabilities will announce the details of the scheme and provide applications by issuing an “advertisement in the leading newspaper” through the websites and other media outfits.
- Applicant need to submit the application through the online system within last date prescribed for receipt of applications.
- The institution in which the candidate is studying shall also register itself in the same website and verify the details provided by the candidate.
Selection process
The final selection will be done by the “Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities” based on the recommendations of the concerned Department of the State Government considering the other things the no. of slots available to that particular state. On the basis of percentage of population of PWDs of that state in comparison to the total PWD population of India the no. of slots will be provided.
