IESO 2019: International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) was founded by International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO). IESO is an annual competition examination for secondary school students. IESO 2019 aims to encourage student’s interest and public awareness in Earth Science and to enhance Earth Science teaching/learning at the school level.

IESO 2019 Application Form

IESO Application Form has released on the official website of the authority. The application form of IESO 2019 was available for a month on the website. At the first stage of IESO, a modest fee of Rs. 100 is charged. Interested candidates can download the IESO Application Form Online by following these simple steps:

  • Visit the official website of the authority at
  • Click on “Application form of IESO 2019” link in the announcements section of the home page.
  • Application form will be downloaded in PDF a file.
  • Now take a print out and fill the application form carefully.

To complete the IESO Application Process, give the filled application form to the Principal of your school with a Demand Draft of Rs. 100/- in favour of the In-Charge of the Test Centre where you will to give the IESO entrance test.

IESO Eligibility Criteria

IESO Eligibility is already there on the website of the authority. It is available in a pdf format to download. You can also check your eligibility here, IESO Eligibility Criteria is written below:

  • A student must be native to India.
  • A Student must be studying in class 9th/ 10th/ 11th/ 12th in the month of September 2018.
  • The age of the student should not be more than 18 years.

The participating student shall ensure that the eligibility criteria are strictly followed. If it is found subsequently that a student do not meet the eligibility criteria, he/she will discard from the process and will never be allowed to attempt IESO 2019 again.

IESO 2019 Exam Pattern

The IESO 2019 Entrance Test will contain objective type questions. The time duration of IESO Entrance Test will be 1.5 hour(s). The medium of the test will be English. The list of topics to prepare for the entrance test are given in the table below:

IESO Answer Key

IESO Selection Procedure

The International Earth Science Olympiad follows a four-stage procedure:

Stage-1: National Level Entrance Test (ET) – IESO Entrance Test is conducted in the month of January every year. The duration of the entrance test was 1.5 hour consisting objective type questions only. The medium of the test is English. Top 20 students are selected for next phase i.e. Training Camp.

Stage-2: Training Camp and the National Earth Science Olympiad (INESO) – The training camp, about 18 days duration, will be conducted at university/research institution usually in the month of May/June. After the IESO Training camp, a test will be conducted and top 4 will represent India in International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO).

Stage-3: Pre-Departure Training – The selected students will undergo another round of training before departure. They will be guided by their Mentors and Team Leaders. The IESO training will be at Geological Society of India, Bangalore.

Stage-4: Participation in the International Earth Science Olympiad – The selected team will fly to the hosting country for IESO 2019 guided by their mentors and observers.
